I bought the right hand EVO Omni Throttle as a gift for my partner who is really happy with it. I will be looking at buying the left hand one later in the year to complete the set.
Let me start with my only two complaints because that's what most of you will be looking for. I didn't buy it sooner and now I'm spending all my time playing with the buttons.
In all seriousness it is an amazing throttle. Not only is on par with other throttles cost wise but it in my opinion beats them for functionality and versatility. The Franky ludicrous amount of buttons/encoders/hats ect and the interchangeability of them to design the throttle however you want is something I was missing with other throttles. The detent system is amazing. I never thought I wanted the detents but now having them and seeing how easy they are to use and work with I could never go without. The build quality is as good if not better as any other mainstream throttle and it doesn't feel like I could break it even If I dropped it.
More importantly thank all of that, the VKB team seem to actually care about their customers and listen to them. This is not my first VKB product I also own the pedals, gunfighter and gladiator. The few problems I've had with the products the VKB team have been right there to help me within a day at the longest which is more valuable than any other aspect of their products.
I'd be surprised that the the STECS doesn't become THE sim throttle for DCS and similar games. I couldn't recommend this enough, even if you can't afford the standard get the mini, the option to upgrade in affordable steps is there and will only get better in the future.
Great button for expand my stecs mini plus just knew something stecs layout almost like su-35 if you a flanker fan and you buys stecs mini plus this great for you need more button 10/10
Was running the Saitek X-55 HOTAS system purchased in 2014.
First off holy hell buttons. Went from maybe 30ish to 80ish amazing for some of the more advanced games that exist in 2025. Being able to swap some of these buttons physically to the specification you want it also amazing. Having the Triggers front and back really nice.
Throttle are so much smoother than the X-55 they split easier for swapping between dcs and star citizen. These are just better hands down easy to adjust and respond well.
Detents - did not realize how much I need these in my life very handy for setting 0 point on star citizen throttle and afterburner in DCS.
Only criticism so far is the z-axis pot / thumbwheel cannot tell where middle point is without marking it with a permanent marker.
Learning the software is an on going process with lots of tutorials required.
Great product would recommend your getting a lot of value in this throttle.
Upgrading from a Saitek X-55 HOTAS system that I purchased in 2014. Quite a difference in quality as well as advanced customization of the gimble and software.
The ergonomics on the gunfighter are far better the X-55, the X55 hurt my trigger finger after several hours of shooting and my wrist also ached after several hours of use. None of the above happens with the gunfighter.
The ball mount X-55 which had major nose down stick drift maybe a year after owning it. Being able to replace or tighten parts of gimble I do not see this being a problem.
All buttons are accessible and feel natural. Software is a challenge to get your head around but very flexible and very customizable. It just requires some effort and tutorials to learn how to use.
All in all a great upgrade for anyone specially if your running an older stick. You get what you pay for and I feel at least so far this is a high quality product.
Replacement for my x55 Hotas and a definite step up in quality and performance, highly recommend.
My x55 finally died after 10 years. Mostly play space sims. After a little research went for the STECS space throttle.
The product quality is fantastic. The support folk are great. However the throttle is going to take some getting used, like a joystick on top of the throttle.
This is a great stick. It is solid, with enough weight to not need to be bolted down - though it has the holes needed for that if desired. You get a lot with the stick, including different spring tensions, and you can modify and customize it to your tastes and needs out of the box.
It has three hats, and one of the hats can also be used as an analog hat. It has enough buttons for me to map everything I need and the twist axis makes all the difference.
I have been using it for Elite: Dangerous and it has changed my game, enabling me to flip into flight assist:off, while rotating, turning and strafing all at the same time.
Software allows for more customisation - and it just worked first time I plugged it in, which was very nice.
Great stick. Very happy with my purchase.
Really well made and unbelievable accuracy. The extension makes it even better.
So much hardware included. Customisation is unlimited.
This makes the immersion for me - real control in my hands - Thanks to all at Vkb (Really)
I received my Gladiator EVO 2weeks back and I love it. Awesome build quality. Easy assembly instructions. Love it.
Great product extra fast shipping was used on washing machine part lol works great now
The VKB Gunighter Mk4 is a premium product that works and feels great and VKB sim Australia were helpful and efficient.
All my sim gear is VKB, excellent quality, and service. The pedals are all metal, very well made, and are a joy to use, particularly with helicopters as the up/down travel makes them way easier to finely manipulate as opposed to the pushing back and forward of all other pedals I've seen. Also with that movement they do not move around on the floor at all. I miss not having toe brakes as the recommended software remedy for this shortfall is not really adequate, but it's not a big issue. And if you wish to try the firmer spring setting, you have to be prepared to dismantle the unit. I preferred getting used to the light touch as I was not at all prepared to go through that process. So a couple of negatives, but I'm still very pleased I bought them, would buy them again, and I highly recommend them to anyone reading.
Moving from a desk mounted HOTAS to a mounted setup has completely relaxed my shoulders and flying is a lot more fun
This is SUCH an upgrade from my last stick. The construction is amazing; It feels so good in hand.
This has made space combat so much easier. With all the degrees of freedom.
This throttle setup is an amazing addition to my space flight sims! It is smooth to use, SOOOOO many buttons and switches, but it is amazing.
Great throttle, very solid and well made. Once it arrived in Australia it was shipped very quickly. Australian customer support is excellent. Any questions were answered very quickly. VKB 10 out of 10.
The STECS STG Standard (Left) fits into the same mounting hole pattern as the TM HOTAS Warthog throttle. I bought this to use in an Obutto R3volution, replacing the Warthog for Star Citizen. The throttle axis is located slightly differently in position compared to the 'Hog, so the ergonomics will take getting used to.
The buttons and dials on the SEM are very functional, but as most of them are made of plastic, do not feel as 'affirmative' and feel 'mushy' compared to the metal switches from the 'Hog'. It's like the difference between a mechanical keyboard and membrane keyboard. This is not a problem in actual usage.
Overall, all you'd need for Star Citizen is really just the Throttle Mini. It has all the buttons, axis and switches you'd need for core functions. All Axis wheels and paddles work and move well. My hands are medium sized and buttons are all within reach. The buttons and switches on the throttle grip itself have much better feel and tactile feedback than the SEM.
The 6DOF nature of the throttle means that its height is noticeably higher than most atmosphere flight throttles. This added to my fatigue and ergonomic issues when using it as I had to hold my arm and elbow up higher than I'm used to. My solution was to angle the throttle away to the quarter left from my body line.
Stock springs and clutch tension out of the box is good. Stock 'w' detent is perfect for using the throttle as strafe forward/strafe backwards.
Some intense small ship dogfighting in space found me unconsciously 'lifting' the throttle upwards, causing accidental strafe up input, especially when withdrawing the throttle from forwards position backwards.
The throttle and 6DOF is very intuitive when used with a stick that allows for twisting. It was easy for me to get into using it competitively in dogfights, but I did not find it as easy to use for racing in Star Citizen.
Durability of the throttle components is unknown, as it is still so new.
I used the VKB Gladiator joystick to replace a mouse for Elite Dangerous, and I can accurately select the various minutiae of the ED interface and map system more efficiently than i could with my mouse. It is the most comfortable joystick I've ever owned, and I'm never going back.
The throttle functions like a dream, my biggest concern was being unable to push the throttle without tilting which has not been a problem.
The only feedback I would give is that the buttons and hats are a little inferior to the ones on the Modern Combat grip. Could we have the highly clicky hats back please
this lets me go seamlessly from flight sim to space sim without losing any of my control options, fantastic alternative to the omni throttle and didn't even have to stress too much while rebinding as the stecs standard with the space grip has a very similar number of buttons and axis to the omni grip
